Go with the Rockies tonight as we get a pitching match up of Doug Davis vs. Contreras over from the White Sox.
We have seen it twice solid AL pitchers in Brad Penny and John Smoltz who were claimed on waivers by an NL team and they come over and succeed. I think you will see the same thing happen here with Jose Contreras. He will surely benefit from seeing that pitcher 1 out of 9 batters. Also the Diamondbacks have not seen Contreras so I expect them struggle at first. The Diamondbacks are just 3-12 in their last 15 road games vs. RH starter and they will have Doug Davis on the mound which usually is not a good thing at least on the road.
Davis has two starts vs. the Rockies this year and a total of 7.1 innings he's given up 12 ER on 10 H and 8BB. Colorado at home just kill left handed pitching in fact they are 12-3 in their last 15 home games vs. LH starter and they are hitting .295 and averaging 6.87 runs per 9 innings vs. LHP at home this season. That is much higher than what they do against righties. They are + 0.14 in average and +1.19 runs per 9 something I like to back when playing on the home team at this point in the season is when they hit that much better vs. certain type pitchers. Otherwise I'll pass, but here tonight the Rockies have a definite edge with Davis the lefty on the mound. Collectively the Rockies have a .330 average off him over his career. Along with that the Diamondbacks are 2-8 in his last 10 starts as a dog and 5-18 in his last 23 as a road underdog.
